If finishing it sounds absolutely glorious … keep reading, buddy!
I know you’ve heard this a gazillion times, but here’s a gazillion and 1 …
YOUR ABOUT PAGE IS NOT ABOUT YOU!
If you keep this in mind, the page becomes much easier to write. Without further ado, here’s my 5 tricks to finish your About Page:
Before you start writing …
Figure out the purpose of your About Page. And write it down. For example, do you want it to help build your list? Or maybe you want to hint about your super-amazing product (and link to your sales page)? Determining how you want the page to work for you will set the tone for the language you use.
Step #1: Talk to your peeps
Start the page with a heart-clinching story or a few questions. (*Think* What’s your ideal client struggling with?) Let her know you understand her challenges by starting your page with a brief story or questions that she can relate to.
Step #2: Introduce yourself
Now that you’ve set the scene, introduce yourself as the one who can guide your ideal client through her troubles.
Step #3: Prove it
Back up your claim with credentials and social proof.
Step #4: Go back to the beginning
Go back to the purpose of your page and link to an opt-in freebie, a products page or at the very least your Contact Me page. Just be sure to include a call to action that reinforces your goal for the page.
Step #5: Give it some seasoning
Give your page some flava by sharing your story. Talk about the passion behind your business. Tell your reader how you overcame challenges that led to the launch of your business. Whatever you share, be sure it’s compelling, interesting and works to make you more likeable and trustworthy.
